IHI Centrifugal Compressor Series Guide — T2A, T3A, TRA, TRE, TRX, TXA: Which Spare Parts Fit Your Machine

A parts-focused guide: what each IHI centrifugal compressor series consumes, which spare parts and overhaul service kits fit, and where to find every parts list.

IHI turbo compressors (centrifugal compressors) have been running in plants worldwide for decades — but the T2A, T3A, TRA, TRE, TRX and TXA series are not interchangeable. Each series has its own impeller stages, bearing arrangement and seal design, so ordering "a bearing for an IHI compressor" is not enough: you need the right series and the right part number. This guide walks through each series from a spare parts and maintenance point of view — what the machine consumes, what we stock, and where to find the full parts list.

As an independent IHI compressor service provider based in China, Turbomax supports oil-free centrifugal compressor users worldwide — including owners and distributors across Southeast Asia — with alternative spare parts, overhaul service kits and after-sales support that minimize operational downtime. Every section below follows the way buyers actually search — compressor brand + model + spare part name — for example IHI TRA air coolers, IHI TRE impellers or IHI TXA mechanical seals — so you can match your machine and order the right part the first time.

T2A — the two-stage workhorse

The IHI T2A is a two-stage centrifugal air compressor widely used in general industrial plants. Because it runs around the clock in dusty plant air, its consumables are predictable: air seals and oil seals (labyrinth edges wear with every start-stop cycle), tilting pad bearings, impellers and diffusers (fouling and erosion), gears and air cooler components. Turbomax supplies all of these as alternative parts manufactured to original specifications, plus complete overhaul service kits packed per machine serial number. Frequently ordered items: IHI T2A impellers, IHI T2A diffusers, IHI T2A air seals, IHI T2A oil seals, IHI T2A tilting pad bearings, IHI T2A gears and IHI T2A air cooler parts. Full list: IHI T2A spare parts list.

TXA — same platform, same parts logic

The IHI TXA shares its design platform with the T2A, which makes parts planning easier — but the parts are not identical, so always quote by series and part number. The TXA consumables we ship most often are rotors, impellers, diffusers, bearings, mechanical seals and couplings. If your machine is a TX-A, see the real overhaul we performed after 37,451 running hours, complete with surge test, clearance and alignment data: IHI TX-A major overhaul case. Frequently ordered items: IHI TXA rotors, IHI TXA impellers, IHI TXA diffusers, IHI TXA bearings, IHI TXA mechanical seals and IHI TXA couplings.

T3A — three stages, more cooler maintenance

The IHI T3A adds a third compression stage, which also means an additional intercooler in the maintenance picture. Besides the usual rotors, impellers, bearings, seals and gears, T3A users frequently order cooler internals and IGV (inlet guide valve) components — deposits and corrosion in coolers are the classic three-stage issue. Frequently ordered items: IHI T3A rotors, IHI T3A impellers, IHI T3A bearings, IHI T3A seals, IHI T3A gears, IHI T3A cooler parts and IHI T3A IGV components. Parts list: IHI T3A spare parts list.

TRA — the petrochemical veteran

The IHI TRA is common in petrochemical, textile and general industrial plants. In overhauls we see its air coolers, tilting pad bearings and seals heading the replacement list, followed by impellers, diffusers and gears. Turbomax keeps TRA overhaul service kits ready as one complete set — seals, bearings, filters and gaskets together — so nothing is missing when the shutdown starts. Frequently ordered items: IHI TRA air coolers, IHI TRA tilting pad bearings, IHI TRA seals, IHI TRA impellers, IHI TRA diffusers, IHI TRA gears and complete IHI TRA overhaul service kits. Parts list: IHI TRA spare parts list.

TRE — built for continuous duty

The IHI TRE series is known for reliability in demanding continuous-duty service, and its impellers and diffusers are machined to tight tolerances — which is why new impellers and inlet guide valves are among the most requested TRE parts, alongside bearings, seals and coolers. We documented a 44,000-hour TRE60 overhaul stage by stage, from inlet scroll cavitation repair to dye-penetrant impeller testing: IHI TRE60 major overhaul case. Frequently ordered items: IHI TRE impellers, IHI TRE inlet guide valves, IHI TRE bearings, IHI TRE seals and IHI TRE coolers — plus IHI TRE60 overhaul kits for the popular TRE60. Parts list: IHI TRE spare parts list.

TRX — heavy duty, upgrading and rebuilding

The IHI TRX is a heavy-duty three-stage machine that often justifies upgrading and rebuilding rather than simple part swapping. Turbomax supplies TRX alternative spare parts — rotors, impellers, bearings, seals, diffusers, coolers — and carries out TRX upgrading and rebuilding work based on more than ten years of IHI field experience. Frequently ordered items: IHI TRX rotors, IHI TRX impellers, IHI TRX bearings, IHI TRX seals, IHI TRX diffusers and IHI TRX cooler parts. Parts list: IHI TRX spare parts list.

What a typical IHI overhaul consumes — plan these before the shutdown

Whichever series you run, a major overhaul usually involves the same categories. Planning them as one package avoids the classic problem of a shutdown paused for one missing gasket:

Two kinds of demand, two supply strategies. The consumables above — air filter elements, oil filter elements, oil mist separator elements and turbo oil — are reordered regularly, so Turbomax keeps them in stock and ships within days. The critical parts — impellers, rotors, bull gears, bearings, diffusers and inlet scrolls — are low-frequency but urgent: when a machine breaks down, the OEM quote usually comes with 8–12 weeks of lead time, while Turbomax arranges priority production and air freight to cut it to a fraction. Tell us which situation you are in, and we will match the schedule. One more long-cycle item sits between the two: the intercooler & aftercooler — after 8–10 years the fouled tubes raise impeller inlet temperature, shrink surge margin and push up power consumption, so replacement bundles and cooler service kits are among our most requested items.

FAQ

How do I know which IHI series my compressor is?

Check the machine nameplate: the Model field gives the series (T2A, T3A, TRA, TRE, TRX, TXA...) and the Machine No. / Serial No. identifies the exact unit. A photo of the nameplate is enough for us to quote — send it via email or WhatsApp and we will match the parts list.

Are spare parts interchangeable between IHI series?

Mostly no. Impellers, diffusers, bearings and seals are series-specific and often specific to a machine size within the series. That is why we quote by series + part number (or serial number) — it prevents the wrong part arriving at your shutdown.

Do you stock fast-moving parts like IHI TRE60 impellers or IHI TX-A bearing sets?

Yes. Fast-moving consumables — air seals, oil seals, filter elements, oil mist separators — are usually in stock for immediate shipment. Series-specific parts such as IHI TRE60 impellers, IHI TRA tilting pad bearings or IHI TRX rotors are manufactured to order with short lead times. Send the part number or machine serial number and we will confirm price and delivery for your shutdown date.

Do you provide overhaul service kits for every series?

Yes. For all six series above we assemble overhaul service kits per machine serial number — seals, bearings, filters, gaskets and coupling elements packed as one complete set, with regular items shipping within days and worldwide delivery.

Send your nameplate — get the right parts list back

Not sure which series you have, or which parts your next overhaul needs? Email a photo of the machine nameplate to turbomax@126.com or WhatsApp +86 13814834140. We will identify the series, return the matching spare parts list with quotation, and assemble the overhaul kit for your shutdown date.
