Centrifugal Compressor Impeller

Replacement 1st / 2nd / 3rd-stage impellers for IHI, Cameron, Atlas Copco, Fusheng and Hanwha oil-free centrifugal air compressors — by Turbomax Co., Ltd.

The impeller is the heart of a centrifugal air compressor: it is the only component that actually adds energy to the gas. In oil-free machines the impeller runs at high speed in dusty, humid air — year after year it collects hard dust deposits, suffers blade erosion and corrosion, and slowly loses its balance. Turbomax supplies replacement 1st, 2nd and 3rd-stage impellers manufactured to the original dimensions and material, dynamically balanced and dye penetrant (PT) checked before shipment.

How a dirty impeller quietly destroys your compressor

Hard dust deposits and blade erosion change the impeller's weight distribution and its aerodynamics. The chain reaction is predictable:

1. Unbalance grows — deposits are rarely symmetric, so vibration rises stage by stage;
2. Stage pressure and temperature drift — eroded blades move less air per revolution;
3. The compressor moves toward the surge line — surge margin shrinks;
4. Bearings and seals suffer — running rough for months accelerates wear of every rotating part;
5. In the worst case, blade failure — a cracked blade lets go at full speed and destroys the whole rotor group.

Cleaning restores performance when deposits are the only problem — but eroded, corroded or cracked impellers must be replaced. That is what we supply.

Typical symptoms — check your impellers if you see these

• Vibration level keeps rising at the gearbox or casing probes;
• Stage discharge pressure / temperature no longer matches the original performance curve;
• Motor current is higher at the same discharge pressure and flow;
• Surge occurs earlier than it used to at the same operating point;
• During overhaul: hard deposits that cannot be fully cleaned, blade leading-edge erosion, or corrosion pitting on the hub and blades.

• Dynamic balancing — every impeller is balanced to the original grade before shipment;

• Matched diffusers — replacement diffusers and inlet guide vanes on request, so the new impeller works in a matched gas path;
• Impeller mounting hardware: bolts, lock washers and seals for reassembly.

Frequently asked questions

• How do I know if an impeller must be replaced instead of cleaned? — If blade leading edges are eroded, corrosion pitting is deep, or the PT check shows cracks, cleaning cannot restore it. Deposits alone (even hard ones) can usually be cleaned off.
• Can you match the original impeller dimensions and material? — Yes. We manufacture to the original blade geometry, bore and material grade, so the impeller fits the original shaft and works with the original diffuser.
• Do you balance and test the impeller? — Every impeller is dynamically balanced to the original grade, and dye penetrant checked with a photo report before packing.
• What do you need for a quotation? — Your compressor model (e.g. IHI TRX160) plus stage number, nameplate photo or old impeller photos with overall dimensions.
